Although a fraternal organization by name, The Knights of Columbus is a very family-focussed organization. Support of families is our primary mission.
Council 8156 has been fortunate to be the home Council of two Texas State "Family of the Year" winners -- The Larry and Beth Odom Family in 2017 and the Greg and Stephanie Nelson Family 2020. The Odom Family was also then selected as Knights of Columbus International Family of the Year in 2017.
After joining our Council, Greg and Jean Waleke jumped right in to help wherever they could be of assistance. Besides enjoying a busy family life with their kids and grandkids, they make time helping in council activities. Both Greg and Jean understand how important it is to have volunteers and they enjoy doing it. Jean offered to serve as the treasurer of the KOC auxiliary when they needed someone to take the position. Meanwhile they were both lending a hand in church and council activities supporting the community. When Greg found out about the golf tournament, he volunteered to work on the golf committee. He introduced fresh ideas while providing great feedback to the committee. He solicited sponsors and donations to help make the tournament a success. When the call for volunteers to help run the tournament on tournament day, Greg and Jean stepped up to the plate. With smiling faces and eager hands, they helped at the tournament from set-up until clean-up was done. They exemplify what it means to be a good Catholic family and members of Council 8156 and the Ladies Auxiliary. Please congratulate our Family of the Month, Greg and Jean Waleke, when you see them.
